Who Do You Want To See Freed?

You know, in the mold of Free Erubiel Durazo!

I know RJ's voting for Winston Abreu, for which I give him props in the "subtle" and "we're so desperate" categories.  But who do you think needs to be given more of an opportunity, based on their talent?

I love the Billy Beene quote!

"That's what you live for. You live for the opportunity and when that day comes, you better be ready," Soto said. "I tried to make sure that whenever they gave me a chance, I was ready and I knew I had to take advantage of the opportunity."

Used to be Ryan Langerhans.

He’s coming back to earth, but I still like a .370/.460 OBP/SLG in AAA.

.280/.427/.505 in AAA

Has to be an improvement over Mike Jacobs 0.1 WAR on the season.

Seriously Gardy, quit playing Cuddy in center. It’s not helping.

More to the point, Murton, definitely. Kila can stay, at least for another month or two, just to make sure the Royals stay down for the season.

If we're talking "cut him free"

Bobby Crosby’s gotta be on that list.

i dont know

they are all three very close in WAR (all at -0.4). but check out the left panel at Red Reporter. we have a “wall of eggs” commemorating Taveras’ 34 straight (and counting) PAs without reaching base. all from the lead off or #2 slot. do Crosby or Aurilia have a Cool Hand Luke-inspired graphic tracking their woefulness?

by Charlie Scrabbles on Jun 14, 2009 10:48 AM EDT up reply actions

I enjoyed Cool Hand Luke

So I have to give it to you. Although Crosby has put A’s fans through 4 straight years of sub-.300 OBP seasons.

Speaking of Taveras, it shall be Free Drew Stubbs time.

by Blicks on Jun 14, 2009 3:03 PM EDT up reply actions

i went to the Bats-Clippers game last night

and Stubbs did not disappoint. he hit 4 laser line drives and ended up with 2 singles and a double. that Taveras signing has to be one of the most ill-conceived in quite a while.

by Charlie Scrabbles on Jun 14, 2009 7:22 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah, Stubbs not being up is getting absurd

Unless they’re showcasing him as part of some trade or something, but that’s me grasping at straws and over-theorizing.

Taveras isn’t hitting and he isn’t playing defense either. He’s just awful.

"You end up with a name like ‘Outman,’" he said last week. "What else are you going to do? You’re going to get people out, man." ~ Dallas Braden

by Blicks on Jun 16, 2009 4:48 PM EDT up reply actions

What Charlie forgot to mention

is that as far as I can tell, the record going back to 1954 (Retrosheet era) for most consecutive PAs without reaching base via a hit, walk, or HBP is 38 (Andy Fox – 2004). Willy Taveras is an 0-for-5 away from setting a new record. Of course, Fox was a part-time player. Taveras has been leading off or batting 2nd during the entire streak.

.372/.408/.618 in Norfolk this year, now rotting on the Oriole bench, hitting .385/.385/.385 in very limited action. (13 PA).

.879 OPS in 94 plate appearances last year and hit .318/.372/.515 in Norfolk last season.
