FG: More Javy Frustration
Javier Vazquez is so very weird to me. I try to understand him and I just don't.
Eric Seidman talks about his latest outing, and how he managed to be a dominant pitcher over the course of the game, but his failures came so close together it doesn't matter: the team lost. That seems to be his MO. While other pitchers tend to have their good and bad PAAs spread out fairly evenly (or, at least, averaging out over the course of the season), Vazquez seems to only have his bad PAAs so close together, he helps his team less than his peripherals would suggest. And, as Baseball Musings points out, 41% of Vazquez's home runs (and he allows a few) come with men on base! How does this happen? Can anyone explain? Is it mental? Is he really just the unlukiest person who has ever lived?

There's definitely some interesting research work to be done here.
Pitch selection with runners/no runners would be a good start. For many pitchers, not just Javier.
Beyond the Boxscore // Calling BJ Upton lazy is lazy.
I'd be very interested to see that.
I’d also like to see it applied to how pitchers throw in general as that pertains to line-up construction.
mechanics would also be a good place to start, particularly with javy.

True: not just pitch selection, but pitch results. For example, do his curveballs curve the same from the stretch?
