RIP Nick Adenhart

Tragic news from the west coast. Angels starter, and once phenom, Nick Adenhart has reportedly died in a car crash last night, just after his start versus the Oakland Athletics.

NBC25 - Williamsport High School graduate Nick Adenhart, a pitcher for the Los Angeles Angels, died early this morning in a car accident in Fullerton, California, according to a family member.

Three people were killed in the crash and another person was seriously injured.

Authorities are blaming the three-vehicle accident on a motorist in a mini-van who ran a red light at East Orangethorpe Avenue and South Lemon Street.

Authorities say the driver of the van fled the scene, was later captured and charged with felony hit-and-run.

tragic and outrageous

hit-and-run? Ugh.

I feel for his family. Adenhart definitely excited baseball fans in Cedar Rapids when he was with here with the Kernels.

as if we needed to be reminded again.

driving while drunk is bad. take a cab, get a ride from a friend, whatever. putting others at risk is unnecessary and we’ve got three more dead people to belabor the point.

So true.

We — as humans, as Americans, as those with the ability to make real choices — tend to do a lot of dumb things. Some are important and some aren’t. In addition to working towards being smarter, I hope we work towards differentiating between the important things and the unimportant.
