Starter or reliever? Joakim Soria (Part 1) -- The Hardball Times
Over at THT, I took a look at Joakim Soria's stuff in PITCHf/x. It's the set-up for Part Two, which considers the impact of converting relievers to starters.
Soria doesn't throw overly hard, but he has good command of his fastball and three good secondary pitches. That makes the conversation about him starting something to take seriously.

Along a similar track
I’m thinking of putting together a post at DRB about moving Jeff Niemann to the pen. I wanted to find minor league data on how he pitched through the first, second, and third time through the order as well as Pitch/FX and similar data. Is there any (free) resource where I can find some info? And what else should be considered in moving a SP to the bullpen?
I’ve never done this sort of analysis, but I’d like to post something substantive rather than just cursory.
I could be wrong though
Minor league splits doesn't have it
Not sure who does.
Figure on a run improvement in ERA or FIP, and a couple MPH boost on fastball speed since there’s no pacing issues. There’s a great thread on this type of stuff at Tom Tango’s blog in the last few days.
