Open WBC Discussion Fanpost
You've probably already seen some pitch fx posts on the Front Page and in the Fanshots concerning games played in Major League Ballparks, but there's a lot of other WBC games going on. So let's use this Fanpost to discuss anything you find statistically interesting, to comment during games, or anything else WBC related.
I'll start us off:

i knew that someone was going to go there
Although, there is a fairly hilarious comment about Dunn from VEB.
I’m reasonably certain…
…that Mr. Dunn spent last week breaking every single bat he could find and kicking puppies, all while peeing on pieces of apple pie and American flags. He then found his mom and hit her with a mallet. He didn’t swing it though, because that reminds him of baseball, which he hates.
The week before he went to a local pitching/hitting/training center (a la Balls and Strikes if you’re from the St. Louis area) and punched every single person there merely for playing and liking baseball. He then took all of the folding chairs out because, well, that’s what you do when you’re mad. Right?
Props to redbirdnation8206.

PFX question for the WBC, are they only tracking pitches in certain stadiums? I’m guessing yes. And I’m guessing it’s in the American Ballparks?

It seems to be in the active MLB parks.
So basically: Toronto, Miami, San Diego, and Los Angeles.

Anyone else excited to get the Japanese pitchers on pfx?

I would love to so Koji something (the guy who signed with Baltimore)
Is he the one with the incredible control and that huge curveball?

I am really trying to temper my expectations for Darvish.
Also, why the hell is Naruse not on the WBC roster?

Uehara isn't playing for team Japan
If you have mlb.tv, check the archives for BAL v NYM. Not his best work, but you can at least get an idea. He did really well against the DR All Stars, but that was a non televised tuneup game.
Younger writers, more attuned to the use of the Internet than their older colleagues, may not have a problem with the disappearance of the books. But in past years they didn’t have the Internet as an alternative reference site. They apparently just didn’t feel the need for any information the books provided.

Mexico seemed to be absolutely inept at fielding a baseball.
Most of Australia’s hits to me seemed to be soft line drive, many of which could have been fielded, and they had things happen like a second base error rolling all the way to the centerfield wall.
I love how the Dominican Republic has solved its loss by benching Hanley Ramirez. But Willy Taveras can run through a sign and get thrown out at home a day after getting thrown out at third in the 9th and still play.

I really REALLY hate the coverage
at least covering the USA games, but with ESPN is that really any surprise?
These guys are really trying to sell the WBC, over-emphasizing it’s “moments” and constantly talking about how much it means to certain players. If it’s compelling, it will play out on the field. Instead we’re subjected to analysts trying to convince us it’s important. Example: they really don’t need to harp on how neato it is that rivals David Wright and Jimmy Rollins are on the same page in terms of wanting to win a freakin’ ballgame.
And I could give a rat’s ass if he’s the best dancer in baseball.
I'm starting to like our bullpen......Wuertz and all.

I just turned to ESPN
and I heard someone say that Ryan Howard wouldn’t strikeout as much because Raul Ibanez was hitting behind him. WAAAAAAAAHHHHHH

haha, right?
was that before or after they said that Bobby Abreu would replace Teixeira’s production?

I didn't catch that
But I made a bet with my friend that the Angels wouldn’t win the division next year. His reasoning was basically “They lost K-Rod and Tex, but they got Abreu and Fuentes so they will probably win close to 100 games again”. I love free money.

The Netherlands is already hitting better than they did against the DR.
That’s scary. What if the Netherlands qualifies for the second round in two games? WHAT IF?!
Also, Bernie Williams starting is hilarious. ANd he’s already let an easy play go right by him in left.
by philkid3 on Mar 9, 2009 7:00 PM EDT reply actions 0 recs
I didn't realize that they were pumping out such good players.
It’s amazing that the DR can’t ever win these things with the talent they have.
by bs.uf15bosox9bears23 on Mar 9, 2009 7:02 PM EDT up reply actions 0 recs
How they use that talent is pretty sad.

That just made my tourney
I never thought the Netherlands would make it through to round 2 – especially beating the DR twice.
