All WAR Team

All_war_team_medium

The leaders at each position according to Rally's Historical WAR database.

I went with the best player who played a plurality of games at a given position, not necessarily the player with the most value at a given position.

If we looked at total value at a position, Ripken would have replaced A-Rod and Bagwell would be there instead of Carew.

The last time I attempted an all-time list, I had Bagwell as my #3 first baseman.

When Baseball Fever ranked their all-time first baseman, almost everyone had him 3rd or 4th.

I definitely wouldn’t have expected him to put up more WAR since 1955 as a first baseman than anyone else.

Steve Phillips says he’s a borderline Hall of Famer. . .

Funny there are no Yankees on there (A-Rod doesn’t count).

Giant Dirtbags: Brian Anderson, Todd Jennings, Steve Hammond, John Bowker

Most of the best Yankees are pre-1955

Although I think the only one who would definitely be on there is Ruth.

Gehrig probably would knock off Carew or Bags, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it were close between he and Foxx.

Berra might make it, but he has 40 WAR to make up in 8 seasons which would be tough.

I still find it quite amazing that Albert is already 39th on the list

And that Jim Edmonds is 38th. As a Cardinal fan, it just makes me happy to see that. Especially Edmonds, who has pretty much flown under the radar his whole career. In the shadow of guys like Jones and Griffey.
