It's amazing what getting out of Fenway will do to a LF's fielding numbers
And conversely, look at Jason Bay – although he was trending downward before the trade.
It’ll be interesting to see if Manny hovers around -5 this season again.

I'll have to look into this, but I believe MGL does some park adjustments, which would take care of Fenway.

I'm pretty sure he does
But I think even he’s questioned whether he accounts for Fenway well enough.
I think there’s a few other places as well that might play weird in UZR too – maybe LF in Houston.

Just imagine...
If the Yankees weren’t such a white-bread organization and had signed the local boy—who went to high school less than 3 miles from the stadium. Compared to their other fielders (from Balboni to Damon, with Williams’s fading arm in center, etc.), the RSox might still be waiting for their first WS victory since Babe Ruth pitched them to one.

Well the Sox won it in 2007 with bad Manny.

Aren't these technically RAA graphs?
If these were RAR, the “Rep” line would always be 0, correct?

Everything's relative to average, yes, except for the RAR.
It puts 0 as rep level. Think I should change it to RAA so that RAR is the gap between RAA and Rep? Should I do something different with the Rep line?

That's what I was thinking.
I’ve been thinking of their actual RAR as (RAR – Rep), which is what RAR actually should be, and it’s pretty misleading on this graph. I mean, it looks like 2007 Manny was only worth 1.9 wins, but he was actually worth (1.9 – (-1.9) ) = 3.8 wins.

Or not, I've got it wrong in my head
I need to stop thinking about these things so hard.

He was 11 RAR.
That’s the red line. It’s 11 above zero. The blue rep line is at -19. The difference between the red line and the blue line is 30 runs. But Manny wasn’t 30 RAR. Should the red line instead be neg8? That would put the difference between the red and blue lines at 11 runs, which is his RAR. Red would then be RAA and the difference is RAR. I like that, comparing everything to average, although it would be nice to have RAR a bit more explicit since it’s the single most important number. I’m open to ideas here.

I think that's really just style
so unless there’s a major push for something else I’d just go with what your eyes like
