Someone on topic. . .
This guy considers the Rays an example of a scouting-heavy team (because they have guys with tools) and the Angels and Cubs prime calculator teams (because they lack situational hitting). Not kidding. And when I challenge him, he responds by trying to make me aware of my misconceptions.

That mini thread was full of wrong.
And LOL @
On paper a guy like Jason Varitek appears to bring little to the table but his leadership and how he handles pitchers is worth its weight in gold.
Look at A-Rod. His numbers are off the charts and his teams have never won a flippin’ thing. Just look at the Yankees for that matter.

That logic is the reason I wanted the Sox to let Kottaras catch all season.
So when the pitchers didn’t turn into jelly people would realize Varitek wasn’t mystical.
That or would say Kottaras learned from Varitek.

It seems to me that he’s trying to push his agenda, teams that win the world series are scouting teams, and teams that don’t are calculator teams. I wouldn’t waste any more time there.

Again, average is about a dozen WAR

I'm not sure I understand
is your point that most of the rotations in the NL Central are below average? I would agree. Or is it that my methodology shortchanged the teams? I took an average of the Chone and PECOTA projections and used the top 5 starters on BP’s depth charts. I didn’t include any additional starters as I was only trying to compare the top 5 guys in each team’s rotation. Is your point that I should’ve added replacement-starters WAR?

I think that he was just pointing out that the NL Central as a whole
has bad starting pitching.

I'm ok w/ that
It’s true, isn’t it? I’m also ok w/ concerns about the methodology. I’d just like to know what those concerns are.

I think Sky's just stating the baseline for average.
I should’ve included that in the one liner.

I wasn't implying anything. Just adding some context.

It's fine
If I sounded offended, I didn’t mean to. I just wanted to make sure I got it right next time, or fixed it, if you thought I should’ve included replacement starters. No worries.

I wasn't implying anything with my response, either. Just adding explanation. ; )
