Around SBN: Jeremy Lin And How The Pac-12 Missed Him

BoaB: Mark Ellis Division Draft - Rounds 11-20

We don't have to start using this new board directly at Round 11...I mean, who really cares?  You can feel free to start posting your picks on here as soon as you'd like, though I'd say that as soon as Round 11 starts, all our picks should be on the new board to avoid confusion.

Here's the draft order again:

  1. devil_fingers
  2. erik
  3. jfranco77
  4. hazel
  5. samt
  6. jhmoore
  7. Adam Peterson
  8. R.J. Anderson
  9. slowjo
  10. mlbnotebook
  11. Todd Zola
  12. someguy132
Also, here's the spreadsheet where we should all be keeping track of our picks.  Thanks again someguy!

I’ve got Fontenot at $0.4455M (.405 * 1.1) and Butler at $0.4389M (.399 * 1.1).

for Hazel: Sean Green, RP, Mets, .4455M

I would give jfranco a mulligan on his pick, but have no way of contacting him, other than hoping he checks the board.

by erik on Feb 25, 2009 7:01 PM EST reply actions

I think what you did was fair

jfranco should certainly get to repick, but in the meantime, picks move on (IMO). Otherwise, we’re all responsible for verifying that each previous player was available before we draft ourselves…or have to roll back a bunch of picks, which would be messy.

I'm not sure either

but then I compared Peralta to the other flotsam and jetsam at SS…I almost took a pitcher, but then I found a relatively obscure $3M bonus/ vesting option that made him a worse value.

It’s getting fun now…

Oh yeah, it's getting nice and uncertain.

This is where you put a bunch of names in a hat, close your eyes, and hope for the best.

Sorry for the late pick

I was on travel this weekend.

This has really slowed down near the end. I would like to decrease my own pick time limit down to one hour, after which R.J. or jhmoore can skip me. If I’m a pick or two late, no big deal at this point. It only affects me, so I don’t think we should need a league wide consensus, other than perhaps jhmoore and R.J. being aware that they could be on the clock earlier.

Do we have any other volunteers? If not, no big deal, I still volunteer.

I don't think that would heolp

But I think the hour limit is a cool idea…if people know they’re not going to be around much and don’t mind being skipped, that could help.

23.11 Kevin Correia .4MIL

I’m going to be on the road all day tomorrow, if someguy wants Juan Cruz, he can have him and I will catch up (no need to give me my window), otherwise I will take him at 24.02 for 2.25MIL — thanks.

Correia is an interesting case

He’s in camp with the Padres, but he’s not listed on Cot’s. According to fangraphs, he made $1.1M last year, but I have no idea about his contract situation this year. Do we just go with the minimum?

Found this on Correia

http://www3.signonsandiego.com/weblogs/padres/2008/dec/24/padres-correia-reach-terms/?padres

The Padres and pitcher Kevin Correia have reached terms on a minor league contract, with both sides expecting that Correia will compete for a starting job in spring training. The $750,000 salary is contingent on Correia winning a spot on the 25-man roster.

so is .75MIL okay?

I’ll repick Cruz laster, sorry

Excellent pick

I’m not publishing the piece on the AL East or two from another week or two, but for my series at Driveline on the rotatoins, my spreadsheet averaging Zips/CHONE/PCEOTA has Hughes with 4.00 FIP and as a .545 pitcher (although that’s with PythagenPat, and I think FGs uses trad. Pythag) pitcher, for about 1 WAr in 70 innings. Even if that’s all he gets, he’ll more than pay off for you.

by Matt Klaassen on Mar 16, 2009 11:37 AM EDT up reply actions

it's a gamble

I’ve got this for my rotation right now:

Lincecum 200ip
Joba 140ip
Liriano 166ip
Beckett 180ip
A Reyes 150ip
Braden 150ip

That was pretty much my strategy, to get guys who would give me good WAR/IP and might be a bit undervalued due to their injury potential. I figured that was better than getting five 200ip guys and punting the 6th spot. There are a lot of scenarios where I could easily fall short of the projected 986ip listed above.

If Hughes is getting serious rotation time it’s likely because he’s doing well, in which case I don’t mind if I actually go over 1,000 and get prorated down.

The only problem is that I only have 335 projected bullpen innings from my top 5. So I will probably fall short there, but there’s always a slim chance that Joba/Reyes/Braden end up doing some work out of the bullpen. Or even Hughes for that matter.

I think I can go now.

I doubt anyone is going to miss the player and I don’t know if I’ll be around for my allotted time:
