Braves Avoid Arbitration with Francoeur.
Jeff Francouer will be earning $3.375M for his services in the 2009 season. Francouer made 460K in '08 and was worth -1.2 wins as a player. It's pretty amazing that you can be so bad at your job and still get a raise.

not just a raise
But nearly a 3 million dollar raise.

I agree with Keith Law
They should’ve non-tendered him and let Glavine walk.
I'm no Francoeur fan, but...
he WAS a 3.7 WAR player in 2007 with a slightly above-average bat and +16 run arm. CHONE projects him at a .324 OBP and .445 SLG, which is worth the money.
Beyond the Boxscore // Calling BJ Upton lazy is lazy.
.342 BABIP
with a lower line drive rate than in 2008.
I’d rather take Andruw Jones on a minor league deal, than Francoeur at 3m+
But yeah, if his defense holds up, he will have some value
Okay, I understand players usually get raises heading from the min up to arbitration,
but this just seems ridiculous. Why isn’t he getting ~750k?
Space.
It's a problem we face.
So we never go anywhere.
We just stay in one place.
I don't think this is terrible for Franceour
But I think the bigger question is does anyone understand what the Braves outfield plans are?
No
I advocated that they sign one of the FA middle-infielders, move Johnson to LF, find a CF, and move Prado and Blanco around during the season. I know, piece of cake…..
Aaron King is still my homeboy... iffy mechanics and all
Your 2009 Opening Day starter at second base*: Eugenio Velez
*For the Fresno Grizzlies
This guy who insists he knows more about baseball than Nate Silver. . .
. . . or any other young whippersnapper who thinks things like batting average is mostly useless, picked Frenchy to win the MVP last season.
Among other hilarities.
If you bring out the snark one more time, Mr. Wyers, I'm turning off all of SBNation's comments.

Do you have the kind of power?
