of course, for that to be true, we probably ought to have a high opinion of them to begin with, right? Seriously, though — all of the above are to blame, with probably Selig and other MLB executives tops on the list but I think that Congress turned the whole thing into a sideshow in an attempt to glorify their own egos. Do they really care? Is this really about little Jimmy? It’s about their self-righteous indignation and getting some quality facetime on the nightly news. They weren’t looking for any solutions. They were simply looking for someone the public perceived as evil so they could point their fingers at them and embarrass them. Their performance both w/ the first set (Palmeiro, Sosa, McGwire, et al) and then w/ Clemens was reprehensible.
