Best Arms and Double Play Turners
First the outfield arms:
| Name | ARM |
| Hunter Pence | 8.6 |
| Nick Markakis | 6.8 |
| Ryan Ludwick | 6.3 |
| Pat Burrell | 6 |
| Shane Victorino | 5.1 |
| Alfonso Soriano | 4.7 |
| B.J. Upton | 4.6 |
Now the pivot specialists:
| Name | DPR |
| Bobby Crosby | 3.1 |
| Akinori Iwamura | 2.4 |
| Miguel Tejada | 2.2 |
| Daric Barton | 1.7 |
| Mark Ellis | 1.5 |
| Jose Reyes | 1.4 |
And after the jump, the worst.
| Name | DPR |
| Mark Teixeira | -1.1 |
| Edgar Renteria | -1.1 |
| Kelly Johnson | -1.3 |
| Derek Jeter | -1.6 |
| Freddy Sanchez | -1.8 |
| Brian Roberts | -2.9 |
| Placido Polanco | -3.1 |
| Yunel Escobar | -3.9 |
| Name | ARM |
| Brian Giles | -9.4 |
| Grady Sizemore | -5.2 |
| Lastings Milledge | -5.1 |
| Corey Hart | -4.6 |
| Jason Bay | -4.5 |
| Brad Hawpe | -4.1 |
| Jermaine Dye | -3.9 |
| Adam Dunn | -3.7 |
| Chris Young | -3 |
| Jeremy Hermida | -2.9 |
| Carlos Lee | -2.5 |
Things I'm all ready thinking about:
- Splits on whether lefties/righties turn DPs better at which positions.
- Arm/DP aging curves.
- Arms by position.

Kemp
Unless I am reading this incorrectly Matt Kemp comes in at 8.1 runs for 2008 OFers, which would put him at #2 on your OF list. Which leads me to believe that this is like that previous arm study that showed Kemp at the top of the list, in that it is not just about arm strength, accuracy and time to get rid of the ball, but also about speed and how quickly you get to the ball and can charge it. I have no problem with the outfielders speed and his arm being combined, but if that is the case, I’d like to see it called something else. I’m not saying Kemp doesn’t have a fine arm, but I have trouble believing it’s the 2nd best OF arm in all of baseball based on what I see with my own eyes.

Suzuki
Ichiro is 5.5, which would put him on the list too. Seems to be an incomplete list. When I sorted the league leaders by defense/arms, I get the same OF list as you, but when I start looking at other individual players who I think have good arms and should be on the list, they indeed should be.

Maybe because he split time defensively last year, and that messed with something in the algorithm?
There are no good individual basketball statistics.

It seems to only include one position per entry, so this seems likely.
And neither player reached the amount of innings needed to qualify.

Perhaps "preventative baserunning"?

Mattycakes
Has quite the cannon. Plus arm strength, seems accurate, especially rating him as a center fielder.

I'm gonna have to look up how these are calculated later.

Well, at least Brad Hawpe has good range and field awareness

Bringing you more-or-less replacement level analysis and commentary since sometime in 2008.
