Texas Leaguer's PITCHf/x tool is something you should add to your bookmarks right now. My jaw dropped at the spray charts.
Hey, check it out! Erik Manning is writing for the world-wide leader! Just for fun, I'll pick nits and say that even with all the home runs, Bonds was actually better in '04 than he was in '01
Jim Caple on the guys who lobby the HOF voters. Yes Lederer is in there.
Connie Mack + Vin Scully = all of baseball history. They both made their debuts in Washington, oddly enough.
Erik Hahmann turns the tables on Carson Cistulli. Read at least to the answer about the Royals.
Jonah Goldwater says Jason Bay is acting like a drunk guy in a game theory experiment. Or maybe he's acting like the sober guy? In any event, it's bad.
Derek Jeter is the best leadoff hitter in baseball. Let Patriot count the ways...

Caple...
I finally got around to reading that Caple piece and found it be very well-done. It was nice to see that from a BBWAA member, and the quotes from Lederer and Tango were good.
There was one part of it I didn’t like, though:
Mike Cameron signed a two-year, $15.5 million contract with Boston, bringing his career earnings to more than $75 million. That’s not bad for a player who has never had 150 hits in a season, has never scored 100 runs, has only one 100-RBI season (2001) and has made only one All-Star team. It goes to show you that if you work hard, are a good, upfront teammate and can cover some ground, you’ll do all right.
There’s a little more to it than that, Jim. Just a tad…

But hits and RBI
are EVERYTHING….. right? Who cares about that new fangled on base percentage crap. Walks are for lazy people.
I'm ok with that, if you format it something like this...
and can cover some ground

but the spray charts idea came from BtB’s iam[was]awesomer.
Thanks for the link-love, Tommy.
Gammons, Olney, Law, Neyer, Crasnick, Caple and Manning. Word.
Anywho, the idea behind the lineup was finding strictly the best hitting performances at each position, just plain ol’ Batting + Replacement. I went into a bit of length explaining that, but they edited it down so that didn’t quite come through.
2004 Bonds was 130 BRAA. 2001 Bonds was 144. Bonds was good.
