Aaron Hill and Chris Carpenter won the AL and NL Comeback Player of the Year awards, respectively. Sometimes there's a gray area in terms of what exactly a player has to come back from in order to qualify for these awards, but this year I think both are good picks and excellent stories -- especially Carpenter, who basically missed two straight seasons due to injuries and returned as one of the five most productive pitchers in the National League this year.
Any other players who deserve mention, even if they aren't more deserving than either of these two guys?

I actually picked Hill and Carpenter to win these awards a few days ago.
Helton and Branyan could have been choices, as well.

And that's where the definition comes into play...
Helton and Branyan didn’t have to deal with injuries or significant external factors, right? So they only came back from crappy seasons. Hill and Carpenter overcame injuries. That more of what “Comeback Player” has always meant to me.
But you could argue that all that matters is going from unproductive to productive, no matter the cause of the “unproductive”. Are there examples of voters being biased against “simple” comebacks in favor of more hardship.

We could simply define it.
“The greatest increase in WAR after a season of decline in WAR of half that amount or greater.”
