Varitek Returning to the Sox?
Apparently the Sox have presented Varitek and Boras an offer. Perhaps it'll allow Varitek to save face after declining arbitration.

I still think he's the Sox best option for the cost required to obtain that player.
For those children who claimed they’ve been a fan of their favorite team all their life, or even since they were about four or five years old: bullshit. There’s always that certain event or certain player that draws to the sport and draws you to a team. For me, Nomar Garciaparra was that reason. - Nick Coviello: I Try To See Rocco, But All I Think Is Nomar; 1/9/09
Varitek's actually pretty underrated right now.
You shouldn’t project him to be as bad as last year, he’s at least adequate defensively, and it’s amazing how poorly catchers can hit and still be useable (cough Ausmus cough). I seriously think Varitek’s worth about $8MM or between 1.5 and 2.0 WAR.
Pudge is in a similar situation, although his intangibles are on the opposite end of the spectrun as Varitek’s.

I think I heard someone say that Varitek should ‘dead cat bounce’ a little for 2009. I liked that phrase. His hitting fell off the table last season but CHONE has his wOBA projected to be .322 for next season which makes him pretty useful. Even if he repeats his ’08 numbers, he should break the +1 win threshold due to his position.
Yep.
Hoping no one with Photoshop gets creative with that phrase.

seems like varitek may have gotten his dead cat bounce in 2007.
"A lot of people talk about his on-base percentage. I like to think in terms of him getting into scoring position."
i take it you're not familiar with the phrase.
