Again, Why?
The Yankees have demoted Melky Cabrera, waived RIchie Sexson, and promoted Brett Gardner and Cody Ransom. I'm going to ignore the Melky/Gardner swap and focus on the Sexson/Ransom swap.
Sexson was brought in to hit lefties. He's done so, with an OPS over .800 against lefties as a Yankee, but they waived him to make room for Cody Ransom. Ignoring the fact that I wasn't aware he was still in the majors Ransom has a MLE translated OPS against lefties or .745. Obviously he may outhit that, but Sexson was doing exactly what they wanted and still gets cut.
This isn't quite 30+ waivers claims, but I'm not sure what could potentially be gained from this swap.

Future Tense
“The plan is likely to be to play Johnny Damon in center as much as possible with Xavier Nady and Bobby Abreu flanking him. That will allow…”
finish the sentence. My version: “about an extra run every three games, if things go well.”
Their version: “the Yankees to use Wilson Betemit as DH more regularly, at least until Hideki Matsui (knees) returns.”
Mine makes more sense. Guess that tombstone on the Post yesterday provoked a reaction. The reaction was to lower their hitting ability (Betemit v Sexson against LHP) and weaken their already-dubious defense (Damon in center; why not just have traded for Griffey?).
Uh, Damon is a pretty decent CF, even with the weak arm
And Nady is an average corner OF, better than Hideki Matsui. It’s Abreu that kills the team’s fielding ability.

I'm thinking Hank is pissed that he isn't in the news everyday, so he told Cashman to do something bold...
Cashman heard “do something old”
Don't question my choice of teams, or I will have to go all troll on you.
