Julio Franco Retires

A disappointing end to an amazingly long career. Let these totals sink in:

23 seasons over 25 years

Eight teams

Seven positions, six on the field (plus DH)

Only 98 post-season at-bats.

Three All-Star appearances, includes being named the All-Star MVP for the 1990 game.

Estimated earnings: ~25 million

Franco isn't a hall of famer by any stretch, but a world without Franco playing baseball isn't going to be the same. In fact, he's going to age faster now in our minds than he ever did playing ball, for instance Jesse Orosco is now 51 years old and Rickey Henderson is 49.

Have fun in retirement Julio, you've certainly waited long enough.

Tx

Julio ...

can retire and collect his pension right away…MLBers only have to be 45. The guy was totally awesome to be able to play this long. I wish him all the best. I am really glad that you wrote about him. He deserves the notice. :-)
