Draft Sleepers: Josh Satin

As promised, here's a statistical look at a sleeper in the draft. We'll cover a few more over the upcoming two+ weeks until the June 5th draft.

Josh Satin 2B California Sr.

A former third baseman, Satin shifted to second following shoulder surgery this past off-season. Per a scout who followed him at the Cape Cod League, Satin "looked better" at second, and should be able to stick at the position in the majors one day.

Currently Satin is hitting .388/.507/.730 with 17 homers, 10 doubles, and a 1.075:1 BB:K ratio, he's also 6/9 in stolen bases. That .507 on-base percentage places him in the top 30 of OBP, and his numbers match up favorably to those of Gordon Beckham, a projected top-10 pick.

fwiw, georgia has a slightly more difficult schedule, and their home park has played much more pitcher-friendly this year than has cal’s.

adjusted for park and schedule, NOBODY’S numbers compare favorably with beckham’s. I haven’t run the exact numbers for a couple of weeks, but last time i looked, beckham had something like 100 points of adjusted wOBA on the rest of d1.

Also, cheese.

Interesting.

I had the apparent misconception that Cal’s park was more pitcher friendly.

things can change quickly

if only because of sample size.

but this year (through a couple of weeks ago), I have Cal at ~100 and GA at ~90; for all of last year, Cal at ~100 and GA at ~70 (!).

Boyd’s 04-07 stats are similar for GA, but much lower (80s) for Cal.

Also, cheese.

That's odd.

Was there a significant change in schedule/opponents, or is this just an outlier?
