Jeez Mariners, save some cheap 1B/DH types for the rest of us.

If the Mariners and Reds switched GMs and Managers, it would be Pareto-efficient

And no one would notice as both teams will lose 85-90 if they have a good 2009.

NO YOU CAN'T HAVE THEM WE NEED THEM

Oh. Heh. Sorry about the yelling. It’s just that we’re, um, working on something. And we need all of the 1B/DH types we can get so that everything goes according to…you know? Just for get I said anything.

I'd say this is actually pretty significant, at least as a sign

I’m sure the old regime would be thinking, “why bring in nobodes like Shelton and Branyan for peanuts when we could extend Raul for 3/36?”

OMG Banny. FWIW I am only crdtng u w/3 runs allwd bc of DDJ OMFG

classic case of a guy going from overrated to underrated super-quick in the "smart" online nerd world

It’s just especially interesting because he got overrated because of one huge offensive season, and is now underrated because few people realize how good his defense is.

I also suspect that people still think of 3B as closer to LF and 1B on the defensive spectrum that 2B and 3B (as someone with an interest in Alex Gordon’s success, this is very important to me).

He was also a really young free agent and didn't lose any of his skills throughout the contract.

With the rate at which MLB contracts increase, a large contract will see a lot more feasible six years later, if the player is producing the same. Most of the time that doesn’t happen, however.

one more thing

yeah, Raul is an awful fielder, but there’s a guy who was underrated for years… He’s definitely outplayed his salary in Seattle, I think, anyway. So he’ll get compensated for it this year, probably. Just hope it isn’t by my team…

Have fun Seattle!

Can you spot the five guys NOT in the Hall of Fame? It's easy, I separated 'em for ya. :)

Here's the full post about guys elected to the Hall of Fame primarily for their defense. Guys like Brooks Robinson, Ozzie Smith, Bobby Wallace, John Ward, and Bid McPhee stand up as definite HOFers, with many others worthy of debate (and a couple aren't worth any debate at all).

I almost made it through the whole post without comparing some HOFers to our friends Bill Dahlen, Lou Whitaker, Bobby Grich, Alan Trammell, and Ron Santo. Almost.
