Wins, Wins, Wins!
"It's kind of unusual that there's a guy you pick up who's won 14 games," Tigers president Dave Dombrowski told Times staff writer Marc Topkin. "It's just a situation where they're so deep with pitching, and we kind of matched up. We didn't want to trade Matt Joyce. We like Matt Joyce."
Emphasis mine. Perhaps Dontrelle Willis wasn't a "throw-in" after all.

Dave Dombrowski
overrated or unlucky?

Overrated...
I’ve never seen a GM who more consistently overpaid for talent under his own control. They have four albatross contracts (Inge, Bonderman, Willis, Robertson) that were signed with pre-free-agency players!

Of course Willis wasn't a throw-in
They extended him like a week after the trade.

Teh stoopid, it burns!
Every day I hear about Seattle sports' failures. Every night I fall asleep to the sound of my own tears.

Ha
At first I thought he was talking about Jon Garland.
So I guess this means it’s time to give Jackson $30-40M over 4 years.

He also gave up a HR to a fat pitcher
Both stats don’t mean anything, but at least this one is funny. :)
Mother---- him and John Wayne!

My computer fails.
DD’s biggest problem is overpaying for mediocrity.
But then, quite a few GMs do that.

But does anyone do it more consistently?
Dombrowski’s a lock for at least one per fiscal year.

It is amusing that he was lauded by many of us as a great GM his first year in Detroit.
And not just for what he did with the Tigers, but his track record with the Marlins.

there's something that happens to these dudes when they get a budget
personally, though, perhaps one could see working for Jeffrey Loria’s FO as “GM boot camp”
