Melky  Cameron

In what is turning out to be one of the most interesting offseason in awhile the Brewers and Yankees apparently made another move by swaping their CF

It's a odd move fore either side I think, for the Brewers, your trading a good player for a guy that's not very good but still young enough and shown some spark at times that might give you hope, but i guess at worse they clear salary for whatever they want. for the Yankees it seems that while CF was a problem there was no real long term solution out there (and this is not either) and this move might prevent you from getting a long term solution in one of the other area of need (first base)

Both team get seomthing, but neither seem to have gotten what they really really needed

Awful deal for the Brewers

Mike Cameron is, still, very good.

Melky? Seriously?

One year, ten million for Cameron, though. Multiple cheap years for Melky.

Melky’s been a league-average player in the past (and is probably a better fielder than Cameron right now). It’s obviously a risk, but not a bad one by the Brewers.

The Yankees would be set in CF for 2009 and in line to add a CF free agent next off-season. Any decent options?

I don't know about the defense

UZR, anyway, hates Cabrera— well below average career and exactly average this year in center. UZR had Cam at +13 this year.

I really hope we get a pitcher out of this.

Rick Ankiel would be a Solid signing for the Yankee's

His defense slid in the second half when he was injured but in the first half it was top notch. Plus, He is a power hitting lefty that would do well in Yankee Stadium’s porch

It's not a done deal yet.

There’s a lot of talk about either it’s stalled or that there’s a hangup on which pitcher the Brewers get from the Yanks.

If this was the whole deal I would personally assassinate melvin

MLBTR had the Brewers asking for Igawa

Is this even serious?

I pray to god

That the Cardinals step in and trade Ankiel for Ian Kennedy

- Kennedy is obviously blocked now
- Yankee’s could use more power from the left side while playing CF
- Cardinals had interest in Kennedy in the past (drafted him in 2003 out of HS)
- Cardinals would prevent Brewers from dumping $10 million in salary crippling the Brewers which would help them in their signing of Fuentes

i'm not a cards fan

but i think if i were, i would like this deal. i’m not really sold on cabrera being even a league average CF. he’s on the cheap, obviously, but if he’s not really a viable option (he really wasnt with the yankees last year . . . OPS+ of 68; .249/.301/.341), then who cares how cheap he comes? cameron is obviously a steal this year for the brewers and even if he’s a free agent next year, he’s got to go as at least a Type B, even if he falls off a cliff this year.

Seeing Milky lots of time

I tell you: There’s nothing about that kid that doesn’t scream 4th OF. He’s overrated.

Trading Ankiel for Kennedy is a bad idea if you want to win in 2009

Signing Fuentes is a bad idea if you are on the Cardinals budget, he only adds 1-1.5 wins to that bullpen.

For 2009, it's really

Ankiel and 5th starter (Wellemeyer?) for Rasmus and Kennedy. Or maybe Schumaker instead of Rasmus if Schumaker’s currently the 4th OF. But with four OFs capable of starting and being league-average, trading one for pitching isn’t a bad move for 2009. And long-term, it’s obviously smart. People smarter than me can debate Kennedy’s talents.

I think Ankiel is in his last year and he is a Boras client

and like you say, they have other guys to play.

I’d put the chances on them trading Kennedy for him to be really, really low.
