K-Rod future

I was just on www.mlb.com and I saw that K-Rod filed for free agency. He is going to get a huge paycheck this offseason. The only teams that can suit his money wants are the Yankees, Mets, Red Sox, maybe the Angels, Giants, Cubs, and for a long shot he Astros.  I see a 4 year 80 milion dollar contract at the very least. he also will want all 4 years garanteed and maybe a player option. this is a very good topic to debate over whether he is worth the huge paycheck or he isn't.

Francisco Rodriguez had a monster season. 62-69 in save opportunities, a 2.24 era and a record of 2-3. I think that he is worth the 80 million over 4 years. I think that K-Rod will want maybe a 6 or 7 year contract. Also more than 20 million a year. The Yankees will easyily pay a 6 year 150 million dollar contract. If you want to know thats 25 million a year. Next year though, he will have 10 less saves,( I know jeeze, I'm being sarcastic.) maybe .5 more on his era. K-Rod will get a huge paycheck wherever he goes. if he does resign with the Angels, he willhave to get a lot of money and 5 years at laeats 5 years garanteed contract. Please leave comments on what you think K-Rod's future is.

quick calculation, being realistic, maybe slightly optimistic

Assume a 2.75 ERA, 72 IP, a 2.25 LI, and a 4.75 replacement-level ERA for relievers.

That’s worth (4.75 – 2.75) * 72 / 9 * 2.25 = 36 runs above replacement or about 3.5 wins above replacement. At $5MM per marginal win (maybe a touch high), that’s $18MM per season. So $20MM per year isn’t totally crazy…

20MM per to K-Rod?!

That’s just a bad contract there.

I predict downhill

But I’m not a fan of 3 out guys.

Curt never met a buttered roll he didn't like.

FYI, in baseball, all contracts are guaranteed. It’s not like football.

Either way, it doesn't matter

Because, unless I’m very wrong here, K-Rod is a Boras client. And Boras does not do team options.

According to Cot’s Basebal Contracts his agents are:

Paul Kinzer, Israel Negron

My bad, sorry

I should have checked before I said that. It’s automatic for me these days to assume that everyone who asks for big money in the off-season is a Boras client. Sorry.

Even still, I think, as you said, that it’s irrelevant. I can’t see K-Rod getting less than a 4 year deal for big money.

20 mil a year?

Whoever gives him that sort of money values saves a lot and thus isn’t a smart baseball person. IMO

I really really really hope the Angels re-sign Rodriguez

it would be a terrific waste of money that should bring a smile to any A’s fan
