never hitting anything?

and this guy is supposedly a senior baseball analyst with a wealth of knowledge to tap into, huh.

he's stubborn. and lacks discipline. and i hope he drowns in front of his children. but I’ll have to document all that when I see him next year, assuming he stays here, which he probably will. i don’t wanna be dissin’ without substance.

by larry on Oct 30, 2008 1:45 PM EDT reply actions

It was somewhat hyperbolic, yes...

But the guy did also have a .317 OBP this year.

by Peter Bendix on Oct 30, 2008 2:21 PM EDT up reply actions

right.

so wouldn’t a joke about that, instead of, i don’t know, a .290 batting average and like a 10 or 12% k rate, make sense? there’s a lot not to like about ramirez. him not making contact kind of isn’t it at all. perhaps fool’s gold from keith law is a more apt title.

he's stubborn. and lacks discipline. and i hope he drowns in front of his children. but I’ll have to document all that when I see him next year, assuming he stays here, which he probably will. i don’t wanna be dissin’ without substance.

sure he mis-typed on half his comment

but it’s still a great costume idea. if only any of my friends would get it…

"mis-typed", huh.

very generous you are with dumb commentary. i’m guessing you wouldn’t be as charitable if joe morgan or tim mccarver said it. dumb = dumb, no matter whose mouth it comes from. unfortunately, keith often deserves to be described in the company of the latter two gentlemen. we’ve been talking about overrated – keith law’s another to add to the list.

he's stubborn. and lacks discipline. and i hope he drowns in front of his children. but I’ll have to document all that when I see him next year, assuming he stays here, which he probably will. i don’t wanna be dissin’ without substance.

by larry on Oct 30, 2008 4:40 PM EDT up reply actions

Yeah but when KLaw does it, he's not being serious

Those other announcers are tards because they really believe those dumb things that they’re saying. I think he just plays on that ramirez is overrated.

by staplemaniac on Oct 30, 2008 4:59 PM EDT up reply actions

law says a whole lot a dumb stuff.

and i’m not quite sure who is overrating ramirez. i’m in chicago and i’m a sox fan. where is this occuring?

he's stubborn. and lacks discipline. and i hope he drowns in front of his children. but I’ll have to document all that when I see him next year, assuming he stays here, which he probably will. i don’t wanna be dissin’ without substance.

i forgot i was on a rays blog so a few idiots on this topic suddenly become mainstream opinion to bash so as to defend the honor of longoria.

chill.

this is not a blog where people come out pistols blazing to defend their teams and opinions. and it’s not a blog where you get to call the authors “a few idiots” like it means nothing. it’s civil discourse. about baseball. with intelligence. feel free to disagree, but keep it objective and impersonal. thanks.

Beyond the Boxscore // Calling BJ Upton lazy is lazy.

by Sky Kalkman on Oct 30, 2008 6:34 PM EDT up reply actions

you guys really take stuff seriously.

apparently both here and on our site. i think you’re the one who needs to chill if you can’t see that the above was a joke. hello? also, you may wish to consider reading better and figure out who ‘idiots’ refers to, mmkay. here’s some help: it’s not the “authors”; it’s idiots who wrote the said articles where alexei ramirez was proclaimed AL ROY. i think the context is very clear but, if it’s not, there’s your clarification. ask for that if you’re unclear and avoid doing this:

he's stubborn. and lacks discipline. and i hope he drowns in front of his children. but I’ll have to document all that when I see him next year, assuming he stays here, which he probably will. i don’t wanna be dissin’ without substance.

Well.

This is certainly annoying.

by philkid3 on Oct 30, 2008 9:07 PM EDT up reply actions

You seem to have missed the articles where Keith Law said Dan Haren had no strikeout pitch

and was a #3 starter at best.

Keep in mind, he wrote this in the winter of 2007-2008 after Haren had already started an ASG.

I could go through the archives and pull out many other retarded things Law has said before, but it’s not worth bothering with.

Every analyst is going to end up saying things that turn out wrong...

…especially if they’re prolific and cover a whole lot of teams.

I don’t always agree with KLaw, but I don’t know that he’s a “dolt” – he’s certainly not Jim Rome or Colin Cowherd bad.

by cwyers on Oct 30, 2008 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

the problem is that he tries to cover a whole lot of teams.

i think being able to do that well borders on the impossible, if not being impossible. you can tell when he’s just talking out of his ass about something. i just wish these guys would recognize their limitations and just not opine on things they don’t know enough about. they aren’t helping anyone when they do that.

he's stubborn. and lacks discipline. and i hope he drowns in front of his children. but I’ll have to document all that when I see him next year, assuming he stays here, which he probably will. i don’t wanna be dissin’ without substance.

by larry on Oct 31, 2008 11:23 AM EDT up reply actions

i certainly don't read enough (like, next to zero) of Keith Law to judge his qualifications

but I do respect him for this, even if he’s just copying and tweaking from PECOTA

in what sense is what law said funny or even close to accurate?

you’re lauding law for having a clever reader?

anyway, the keith law worship is a little much. his default condescension is abrasive and less tolerable in light of the errors.

you don't get it. he made a joke about alexei ramirez. everyone knows that if you're a sabrmetric guy, you should dislike ramirez because he doesn't get on base enough.

nevermind that the joke doesn’t make sense. laugh because keith law is awesome and he made a joke about a player you should dislike and is overrated. that’s what the cool kids do.

he's stubborn. and lacks discipline. and i hope he drowns in front of his children. but I’ll have to document all that when I see him next year, assuming he stays here, which he probably will. i don’t wanna be dissin’ without substance.

i think it got lost due to the "but never hitting anything" part

if he wanted to be someone who walks around swinging but never hitting anything varitek would have been a much better choice.

if he's dressed apparently as a sox player doing the above, i think it's pretty obvious that everyone would think he's juan uribe.

ramirez makes no sense.

keith ain't that skinny.

he just needs to get a big wad of gum to stick in his right cheek and he’s there.
