M's Hire Zduriencik
I mentioned Zduriencik as a darkhorse candidate after Bavasi was initially fired. One of the craftsmen of the Brewers young core, I think the Mariners made an okay choice, considering most of the really good candidates (see: Hoyer, Forst, DePodesta) either would or could not interview. At the very least I don't think the Mariners will be selecting another closer in the first round anytime soon.

Z-man isn't a bad choice, but
I had my heart set on Dipoto (among for the 4 finalists, anyway).

They're still the mariners
I still see them struggling mightly in the next few years regardless of who their gm is…

Well this decision almost certainly indicates a full tear-down, but they're not as bad off as most people think.
The Mariners had Jose Vidro at DH for the majority of the year and Richie Sexson, Miguel Cairo and Bryan LaHair at 1B for the majority of the year. They were very slightly above replacement level at the two easiest positions to fill. They had massive amounts of injuries. I’m not saying they were a good team, but I was hoping for someone like Woodfork or possible LaCava to be hired and recognize that this team didn’t need to sell off everything and commit to a 3-5 year plan (or whatever) to be relevant.
Not to say that I’m not pleased with Zduriencik. He wasn’t my first choice, but he’s still a good one.
