Speaking of Signing Ellis

Billy Beane did. If the financial terms seem a bit low, well, they are. Despite Ellis likely being Plan B for most teams in pursuit of a second baseman, it appears Ellis just really enjoy Oakland, and we all know Oakland is one of the few teams who understand just how good this guy is.  Offensively Ellis has a putrid BABIP and will almost certainly possess an OPS over .700 next season, and considering the downgrade that Cliff Pennington or Eric Patterson would've been defensively I don't think anyone can be too disappointed with that.

On a side note, I think Orlando Hudson just did backflips.

Orlando's contract just got fatter.

Somebody will way overpay for this guy. Who? I don’t know.

Carlos and Victor Zambrano have exactly the same number of career postseason wins. Who would have thought?

well thank god it CAN'T be the A's

although i’m positive they wouldn’t have ever signed Hudson this offseason. Here’s hoping Ellis isn’t the only “big” FA signing this year

You guys do realize

that Ellis probably signed for half of what he was worth, right? Billy Beane did it again, but if you really like Ellis, you have to wonder why he wouldn’t even try to go out on the market. Tango’s right — he’s a 3.0 WAR player (at least) who signed a 1.5 WAR deal.

AT LEAST a 3.0 WAR player

His realistic upside is…
 0 offense
+1.75 fielding
+.25 pos
+2.5 rep

which adds up to +4.5 WAR. yes, yes, aging, injury, etc. but jeez, teams really need to figure this shit out, or else the A’s, Rays, and high payroll teams are going to win every year.

I agree with your values, I was just trying to be conservative in my estimate.

The question is how fast should Mark Ellis fire his agent. Is this malpractice?
