Drew Set to Sign with Red Sox

The Boston Herald says J.D. Drew will get a four-year deal worth $14 million per year from the Red Sox.

The fifth year will be an option, according to the report. Drew isn't expected to officially sign with the Red Sox before Sunday.

Since the 5th season is an option this deal is very good in my mind. At least comparing to the deals Soriano, Lee, Pierre and Sarge Jr all signed for.

RE Drew deal

JD Drew had a pretty good OPS last year and I really think that's what's driving Theo to gift Drew with that big contract. But you keep hearing over and over again how the AL is tougher to hit in than the NL. Will there be a drop-off for a 31 year old?

At that price, he needs to put up 35 HR's and 120 RBI (which he almost definitely won't) or else the Boston fans are going to be on his case all season.
Also I have a suspicious mind, and I can't help but wonder if the RedSox made a deal with Scott Boras to overpay Drew and maybe they get a deal on
Matzuzaka's contract?
